What is Diet Claude?

I was mid-sentence. Claude was not. The reply stopped, and the only instruction left was to wait. Anthropic documents usage limits as a conversation budget across claude.ai, Claude Code, and Claude Desktop, and it puts the bars in Settings, which is a funny place to hide a number you need while you are typing. Diet Claude is a Chrome extension that says it will put that number on the chat instead. Soda can optional. Product Hunt ranked it number two on 2026-08-25. The Store listing shows 597 users, ten five-star ratings, version 0.14.9, updated 2026-08-24. The angle is the hiding place, not the Store page. We still could not install the binary here. So the can is unwatched. The problem is not.

Diet Claude is a Workflow & Planning extension for claude.ai only. No API key. No Diet Claude account. Templates off until you ask. Fork, Organize, and a typed handoff into ChatGPT, Gemini, or Grok sit on top of the meter. That is a bigger product than a toolbar ring. Whether the can actually drains, we have not watched.

Who made Diet Claude and can you trust them?

Diet Claude is published by dietclaude.com, from Socia Tools Private Limited in Bengaluru, with a real inbox at admin@socia.tools. Version 0.14.9 landed 2026-08-24. Product Hunt put it at number two the next day. The listing says a person reads the mail. That is as much identity as we needed for a new 597-user listing.

How does Diet Claude work?

Add to Chrome, if Chrome will let you. Then pin it. Chrome still hides new icons behind the puzzle-piece menu. Two clicks. That is a tip, not a product review.

The number on the tab. A live reading of the 5-hour session and the weekly window, taken from figures Claude already reports for your account, in your browser. A soda can, or a numbers panel. A reset countdown. Desktop warnings at 70% and 90%. A ping when the session refills. A one-hour heads-up. Each kind of alert has its own switch. That last sentence is the grown-up part of the listing.

The stretch. A tokens-used readout, because long chats cost more per reply. A cache-warmth timer of about five minutes. A nudge to start a new chat when the thread gets expensive. Fork & Compress. Organize, up to 1,000 titles. Search inside chats, indexed on the device. Improve prompt. Continue in ChatGPT, Gemini, or Grok: it types a summary into the box and does not send it for you.

Templates stay off until you flip them. Fine. The compose box should not become a dashboard on day one.

The soda can is a costume. The listing is the spec. We have screenshots of both. We do not have a screenshot of the widget on claude.ai.

Verified 2026-08-29. Diet Claude needs a Claude account at claude.ai. It does not need a subscription to Diet Claude. The rest of this niche is also free. $0 is the going rate, not a plot twist.

What worked well when we tested Diet Claude?

We did not test the binary. Chrome on this machine would not install it. What follows is what the listing is good at.

• It names the actual problem. The chat does not show the 5-hour and weekly bars. Settings does. A meter on the tab is the right feature to sell.
• The extra features have an argument. Fork, cache-warmth, handoff. If they work, this is more than a percentage. We have not seen them work.
• Handoff, as written, does not auto-send. The summary lands in the box. You press send. That is the correct default even as copy.
• Alerts are not one blob. Limit, reset ping, one-hour heads-up. Each can be switched off, according to the listing.
• Templates off until asked. Also according to the listing. Believe it when the compose box is in front of you.

What didn’t work when we tested Diet Claude?

• We could not run it. Managed Chrome, same wall we hit on Ad Block Ghost. So there is no popup shot, no draining can, no proof the 70% toast fires. Treat every feature bullet as listed, not observed.
• It is a crowded meter. ClaudeKarma has 20,000 users and a 262 KiB install. Claude Usage Meter has 8,000 and a Featured badge. Diet Claude is 2.45 MiB and 597 users. The soda can is doing a lot of the differentiation.
• Web app only. Claude Code and the desktop app share the same usage budget. Diet Claude cannot show the number there. The listing is honest about that. The wall does not care which surface you were on.

The homepage wanting you to crack open a pixel can is not on this list. That is marketing. Harmless.

Who should use Diet Claude, and who shouldn’t?

Should

• People who live in claude.ai, keep hitting the wall, and want a listing that also talks about fork and handoff, not just a percentage.
• People willing to try a 597-user extension that shipped this week, knowing we have not confirmed the widget.

Shouldn’t

• People whose Claude life is Claude Code or the desktop app. Diet Claude does not run there. Because the listing says so.
• People who just want a small, well-used meter. ClaudeKarma already has the users and the toolbar rings. Diet Claude is the bigger, newer, can-shaped listing. Different appetite.

Ease of use: 7/10 — the listing reads as pin-and-go. We did not get that far.

Value: 7/10 — free, like the rest of the niche. The extras are the reason to pick this listing over a 262 KiB ring, if they work.

Reliability: 6/10 — v0.14.9 this week, 597 users, ten ratings. New, maintained, unproven on our machine.

Privacy: 7/10 — listing says the core meter stays on the device, and that Organize and Improve prompt send titles or a draft only when you click them.

The wall is real. The homework is in Settings. Diet Claude put a can on that joke. We have not watched the can drain. If you want the number with less theater, ClaudeKarma is already on twenty thousand machines. If you want the fork-and-handoff story, this is the listing to try, with your eyes open.

Pin it if you install it. Leave templates off until you want them. Then see whether the meter actually shows up.
