Okay, So The Boys Season 5 Just Kicked Off With a Bang, But Whoa.

Look, I’m not going to lie. When I heard that The Boys showrunner broke down season 5’s first major death, I braced myself. This show has never been shy about being messy, brutal, and absolutely wild. But this first one? It hit different, and not entirely in a good way. Or maybe it did? That’s the problem with this show, it makes you question everything.
I’m still processing it, honestly. On one hand, the sheer audacity of it was impressive. The way it was set up, the build-up, and then the gut punch – it’s undeniably effective television. You’re left staring at the screen, mouth agape, wondering if they *really* just went there. And they did. They absolutely did.
Was it necessary though?
This is where my mixed feelings really kick in. Is this death going to serve the larger narrative, or was it just for shock value? Because sometimes, with *The Boys*, it feels like a coin toss. It’s brilliant when the shock is earned, when it pushes characters or plots in a direction that feels inevitable, however dark. But when it feels gratuitous? That’s when I start to get a little antsy. I found myself thinking about how some stories just don’t go anywhere interesting, like this new Masters of the Universe trailer left me feeling.
The showrunner’s explanation, when I dug into it, made some sense. They talked about setting a tone, about consequences. And yeah, I get that. Consequences are what make the stakes feel real. But still. This wasn’t just some minor character we’ve barely seen. This was someone who, you know, mattered. And now they’re gone. Poof.
It makes me wonder about the future of the season. Are we just in for a parade of carnage, or is there a deeper purpose to all this bloodshed? It’s a fine line, and I’m not entirely convinced they’ll walk it perfectly. I mean, we’ve seen how quickly things can go sideways, like when Sora was gone and nobody could figure out why. It’s that uncertainty that keeps me hooked, I guess.
What happens next?
Ultimately, I’m watching. I have to. The sheer insanity of this show is its drug, and this first death is a pretty potent hit. It’s cool. It’s ridiculous. It’s *The Boys*. I just hope the rest of season 5 doesn’t rely solely on just making us gasp. I need something more than that, but knowing this show, I’ll probably get both.
